#France urges global coalition to fight Islamic state #Paris


French President Francois Hollande upped its ante against Islamic state urging Russia and USA to join for a global coalition. The move came in the backdrop of terrorist attacks across Paris, as he declared that France is at war. He promised to increase funds for national security and strengthen anti-terrorist laws. He pledged that French jets would intensify operations and meet US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, recently Barack Obama ruled out sending in ground troops in Syria during the G20 meet in Turkey. Intelligence experts fear another wave of attacks across European countries after the French police arrested two dozen people in 169 raids overnight and seized arms.

#IndianRailways doubles minimum train fare


Indian Railways has increased minimum train passenger fare to Rs.10 from Rs.5 as it decided to increase the minimum chargeable fare at par with platform ticket from November 20. Indian Railways had revised platform tickets to Rs.10 from Rs.5 in April 2015 to control the platform rush. However, sales for platform tickets declined as people opted for purchasing the single journey second class tickets priced at Rs.5 instead. Initially, this will be applicable to second class non-suburban services only. Administration expects that this will help to control rush on platforms to manageable levels. The increase is effective from November 20.

Rising from the Ashes: #BSNL turns profitable

India’s oldest and largest CSP BSNL – has turned over its fortunes in 2015 as it reported an operating profit of Rs. 672 crore, after posting a loss of Rs.691 crores in previous fiscal year. The company gained on the back of rise in revenues and decline in administrative costs. The company plans capital expenditure of about Rs.7,700 crores in FY16 on Next Generation Network, wi-fi etc. The debt to equity of the company stands at 0.13, lowest in the industry. Anupam Shrivastva, MD, BSNL told that Mobile Number Portability has helped the company to gain customers. The company has setup 25,000 additional towers in 2014 and 2015.

President Pranab Mukherjee today urged writers and other intellectuals to value the awards and not overrun with emotions. While giving away awards of PTI to journalists and photographers, he said that these prestigious awards are public recognition of their talent, merit and hard work. Referring to the incidents of returning of awards over “growing intolerance”, he said that sensitive minds do get disturbed by incidents in the society, but expression of concern over such incidents must be balanced. He also pointed out that freedom of press is guaranteed by the Constitution as a fundamental right and that the spirit of law must always remain a living reality.

A pillar of global growth; #India to lead the world #G20Turkey #NaMo


Narendra Modi projected India as a pillar of global growth and stability at the G20 Working Lunch on Development and Climate Change at Antalya. Addressing the heads of world G20 economies he said that given our size and scale, India can become a pillar of global growth and stability. He further added that India has the largest financial inclusion programme and is working to meet people’s all basic needs. India’s development goals are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and aims to eliminate poverty by 2030. He further pointed out that India has improved on the rank of ease of doing business, streamlined taxation and liberalized FDI policy.

Subramanian #Swamy charges British citizen #RahulGandhi of fraud; demands action


Subramanian Swamy alleged Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi of forging fake identity to float a private company in London. The leader asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strip Gandhi of his citizenship and his membership of Lok Sabha. He alleged that Mr. Rahul Gandhi has declared himself to be British citizen with a UK address to float Blackops Limited in London.  He further told that he will write to Lok Sabha Speaker requesting to refer the matter to the Committee on Ethics. Dismissing his allegations, Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said that it was a gimmick by Mr. Swamy to try and seek publicity whenever he is sidelined.

#DalaiLama praises Bihar election results #BiharVerdict


Tibetan leader Dalai Lama remarked that the Bihar election results prove that Hindus prefer harmony today. Without naming any political party or leader, he praised the outcome of Bihar elections and said that Hindu community still believes in peace and amity. Supporting the remarks of the spiritual leader, JD(U) leader K C Tyagi termed it as an attack on “extreme elements”. He also pointed out that President Pranab Mukherjee had also flagged the issue of growing intolerance and the Bihar elections had defeated intolerance. BJP downplayed the remarks saying that Bihar has long seen communal harmony. Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that Dalai Lama’s statements should not be misinterpreted.

#SwachhBharat Cess: The cost of cleanliness #Modi #MyCleanIndia


The government is imposing 0.5% Swachh Bharat cess on taxable services, which is expected to yield about Rs. 3,800 crores to the government in the remaining fiscal year. The additional cess would increase the Service tax from 14% to 14.5% adding Rs.10,000 crores to the exchequer for the full year. The levy would go towards the cleanliness drive flagged by PM Narendra Modi. For restaurants having air-conditioning facility, the levy would be 0.5% of 40% of the bill amount i.e. 0.2%. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said during the budget speech that this would be a step towards involving each and every citizen in making contribution for Swachh Bharat.

GMS to fish out #Gold, says UBS #GoldMonetization


Global research firm UBS securities gave a thumbs up to the Gold Monetization Scheme introduced by the Modi government to meet the desire of the yellow metal among the Indian consumers. The firm said that the scheme has the potential to perform better than previous initiatives, especially among the rural areas from where a large demand originates. Modi launched three schemes last week to fish out 20,000 tonnes of gold lying idle in households. The move, if successful, may help to contain current account deficit. It has also linked to Gold Metal Loan Scheme, which would allow metal collected to be lent to jewelry industry.

#Congress leader Anand Sharma accuses PM #Modi of embarrassing India

Congress-leader Anand Sharma said on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarrassing India by claiming that the country enjoyed no credibility prior to his tenure. Talking at a news conference, he said that Congress completely rejects his claim that he has restored India’s credibility. He alleged that the prime minister has created an atmosphere of fear in the country because of his authoritarian conduct of the affairs of the state. He added that Modi is embarrassing India by repeating statements in foreign countries he visits. India was respected, had credibility and was one of the most favoured destinations for FDI even before, he claimed.
