#SwachhBharat Cess: The cost of cleanliness #Modi #MyCleanIndia

The government is imposing 0.5% Swachh Bharat cess on taxable services, which is expected to yield about Rs. 3,800 crores to the government in the remaining fiscal year. The additional cess would increase the Service tax from 14% to 14.5% adding Rs.10,000 crores to the exchequer for the full year. The levy would go towards the cleanliness drive flagged by PM Narendra Modi. For restaurants having air-conditioning facility, the levy would be 0.5% of 40% of the bill amount i.e. 0.2%. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said during the budget speech that this would be a step towards involving each and every citizen in making contribution for Swachh Bharat.
